Migrating to BAMITS Hosted Desktop Solution instead of replacing on-premises infrastructure
A privately hosted cloud solution based on market-leading technology from Citrix - built to support businesses who want an alternative to on-premises infrastructure
McMillans is a large accounting practice in Traralgon which provides accounting services and financial planning advice.
McMillans' IT infrastructure included multiple physical servers in a high availability cluster with shared SAN storage and VMware View VDI. On end-of-life in mid-2016, McMillans chose to migrate into BAMITS Hosted Desktop Solution (HDS) rather than replace their on-premises infrastructure.
The HDS is a privately hosted cloud solution based on market-leading technology from Citrix.
The HDS offers customers an affordable way to access enterprise level technology at a fixed monthly fee and they’ll no longer need to own or maintain physical server hardware. Being privately hosted and supported by BAMITS, the HDS enables clients to retain more control than is offered in public cloud solutions, as knowing where the data is and who’s maintaining it matters!
The HDS was initially tested by BAMITS who demonstrated their commitment to the solution and its effectiveness by continuing to operate their business from within the HDS, essentially as a client of their own system, which enabled them to stay in touch with the customer’s experience.
Extensive testing was carried out prior to McMillans’ migration to the HDS; the accounting business applications which include APS, pdfDocs, PaperBuster, Castaway, BGL CAS and various versions of accounting packages that their clients use were installed and data was uploaded for individuals to test performance and functionality. Finally, the system was tested at full load with all staff before the final cut-over.
The staff were able to make a smooth transition from their previous VMware View environment into the HDS’s Citrix XenApp thanks to the familiar appearance of a Windows desktop; whether they use a PC, Mac, or tablet, the HDS looks like a Windows desktop on every device.
Staff simply enter their user name and password when their device starts up which connects to the HDS just as they would have with on-premises infrastructure. Provided there’s an internet connection, the HDS provides secure access to all business applications and files from anywhere on any device (PC, laptop, tablet, Mac, smartphone), so it’s an ideal solution for organisations with multiple offices or mobile workers who need remote access.
BAMITS maintained an onsite presence in the week following the migration project to ensure the highest level of support and response were delivered. The BAMITS Help Desk has subsequently taken over the primary role of Level 1 support.
